Never Mind the Buzzcocks

Never Mind the Buzzcocks on BBC 2 is quick fire irreverent game show that sees musicians, pop stars and the odd celebrity answer questions about pop music. The title comes from a mix between the famous Sex Pistols album “never mind the b*llocks “and 70s punk band the Buzzcocks.
The show is famous for its sarcastic wit and rock and roll banter and the guests sometimes launch personal verbal attacks on other artists. It is often entertaining although the success of each individual episode depends on the quality of the guests and whether or not they are quick witted and amusing.

There are four rounds of questions for the teams to answer. These include features such as “guess the intro” round where two team members perform a celebrated song introduction acapella style, using the desk and clapping as percussion, for the other team member to guess. (Although most of the guests on this show are musicians, it is quite incredible how bad so many of them are at this!)
Probably the most well know part of the show is the round called “Identity Parade” where we first see a video clip of a performer filmed in the 70s or 80s and then have to pick them out of the present day line up.
Everyone finds this highly amusing and the guests are often quick with a humorous and personal comment about the old performers aged appearance. It is highly possible that if this show continues, and it is already in its 26th series, some of the earlier guests will probably soon be featured in the “past it” line up.

Never Mind the Buzzcocks has become a BBC institution. It first aired in 1996 and has included Christmas Specials and editions for charity telethons such as Children In Need and Sports Relief.
Since the programme started, it has gone through some changes to the line up. Previous hosts were DJ Mark Lamarr and then comedian Simon Amstel but the show is currently without a permanent presenter and instead is hosted by a guest presenter each week. Previous team captains have included Sean Hughes and Bill Bailey but in later series, Phil Jupitus and Noel Fielding preside over their teams.
If you like laddish behaviour and a fairly aggressive sense of humour you will probably enjoy it. See all episodes of Never Mind The Buzzcocks via youriplayer.co.uk and make up your own mind.
