Inside No. 9 on BBC 2 is a comedy drama series with the focus on horror. It comprises of six one -off tales set from behind the doors of various houses that are all numbered nine. The goings on behind the number nines are all filmed in single locations and all the houses have dark and macabre stories to tell.
The stories range from a large country house where a game of Sardines turns nasty to a West End dressing room where an actor is drenched in blood. This collection of stories comes from the comic and sometimes dark minds of Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, two of the writers behind The League of Gentlemen and Psychoville c038tv.
Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith have a talent for setting situations that feature mundane and ordinary moments into a sort of claustrophobic horror where the characters find themselves in macabre worlds that often offer no hope of escape. However, sometimes the gothic horror is so bizarrely jaw dropping it creates great comedy too. If you like your comedy dark and gothic you will love this show.
The idea for Inside No.9 on BBC 2, came from an episode of the first series of Psychoville, which was entirely set in a single room. Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith began exploring the possibilities of expanding the idea of placing all the action of each episode into one single location to create a whole series.
