The Royal

The Royal is an ITV drama set in and surrounding the fictitious based ‘St Aidans Royal Free Hospital’ in North Yorkshire. It originated as a spin-off form popular police drama Heartbeat which was also set in the 60’s. Stars of the show include Ian Carmichael OBE of Bertie Wooster fame and Wendy Craig of Butterflies fame.

More recent series of The Royal progressed from crossing over from Heartbeat as it developed into a show in its own right. Bed-ridden Claude Greengrass (Bill Maynard) was an example of a character that was originally included.

The Royal was often filmed at seaside town Scarborough .A lot of the genuine old cars used can be seen at the motor museum at Thornton-le-Dale just outside Scarborough.  Check out The Royal via Youriplayer.co.uk
