The Real Hustle takes us into the world of the hustler as they attempt to con real people out of their money. The three hustler presenters are filmed as they try out some notorious scams on members of the public. The aim of the show is to make people aware of scam artists and the victims or “marks” tricked on the show have their property of cash returned to them.

Confidence tricks are sadly very common in real life and if this show does anything it alerts the public to be aware that people and deals are not always how they appear.
Previous hustles have included cash point frauds where the scammer has fitted fake cash points into walls in an attempt to steal card details, black money scams where supposedly real money has been dyed by accident and the mark has to invest in a special cleaning agent to share in the proceeds once the money is cleaned and similar.

Many of the frauds seem blindingly obvious to the viewers but a feature of confidence tricks is that they are always persuasive and the hustlers always convincing and a victim can be easily sucked into the most unlikely of scenarios. The message is that if you are met in real life by a scammer it is not always easy to spot it until it is too late.
The Real Hustle on BBC Three first aired in 2006 and has run to 11 series so far. There have been some controversies surrounding the use of actors as marks but Objective Productions, the makers of the programme, maintain that they are ignorant of the role that they are really playing and any actors used believe that they are featuring in a non-related documentary subject.
