The series first focuses on the original five young offenders. Kelly obtains an ability for telepathy, Curtis can rewind time, Alisha has the power to send people into a sexual fever at one touch of her skin and Simon can become invisible. The fifth misfit Nathan has powers that remain unknown until he dies and then it is revealed he has become immortal.

The Misfits follows the personal story of each of the group as he or she tries to fit in with society and deal with the special powers. There are plots and subplots galore and a dark and supernatural edge to the storylines. This is more fully developed over seasons 2, 3 and 4 with new characters joining the cast along the way all with their own special powers. In series four, new misfit Nadine has the power to summon the four horsemen of the Apocalypse and this has disastrous consequences for the rest of the gang.

Misfits is filmed around the south London area and this unglamorous setting is a good contrast with some of the supernatural events. Series 5 is to be the final season for Misfits and features a support group for misfits with bizarre powers such as the ability to change sexual partners into turtles.
Misfits is original and darkly funny. It won the BAFTA for the Best Drama Series in 2010 and the series is popular with US audiences after being bought by Hulu.
