Dragons Den makes for some compelling viewing. Some of the entrepreneurs looking for investment have inventions and ideas that seem nonsensical. Others may be on to something but have no business sense and a few appear to be creative with their accounting figures!
The Dragons are all respected as business success stories and drill down into the often flimsy pitches to get to the truth behind the figures and overall plan! Although more entrepreneurs fail to get investment than win a connection with a dragon, there are success stories. Some of the entrepreneurs have gone onto establish high profile businesses with the help of the dragons expertise and investment. Levi Roots was an early contestant who received business backing and his Reggae Reggae sauce is now available in many supermarkets turning Levi into a rich man himself.
The Dragons line up has undergone a few changes since the programme first aired in 2005. Telecoms giant Peter Jones, sports centre magnate Duncan Bannatyne have been with the series since the start and Deborah Meaden a British businesswoman joined in 2006. Other business dragons have included Theo Paphitis, James Kahn and Hilary Devey. The 2013 series has featured two new dragons Kelly Hoppen and Piers Linney joining Deborah Meaden, Peter Jones and Duncan Bannatyne in the den.
