All types of scam are covered in the show. From property scams that see ripped off pensioners pay for work they don’t need, to romance scams where lonely hearts are taken for suckers by their supposed new loves. Finance, property, stocks and shares and investment scams all feature on the show.
Many of the scams are very upsetting. One featured children who were duped into believing they would perform at the Olympic Games, a couple were tricked into handing over money for a non-existent holiday property. Other scams are more business oriented but still leave a trail of personal upset such as the conman who tricked investors into giving up their life’s savings by pretending to invent a new building material.
You’ve Been Scammed was first broadcast on BBC One in 2011 and so far has run to two series. The show is always looking for new stories so if you are a victim of the scammers you are invited to write in and share your story.
