Waterloo Road
Waterloo Road on BBC One is a gripping drama series set in a tough comprehensive school and follows the lives of the teachers and the students who attend this rather bleak looking establishment.
The series Waterloo Road is well known for introducing social issues into the plotlines but manages to remain entertaining as well as providing this social commentary. Stories on abuse, suicide, bullying and abortion have all featured well as the usual school type stories, such as romance, the intrigue of the staff room and class room, league tables and OFSTED reports.
BBC One often screens Waterloo Road to run in synch with the real school year with the Autumn Term kicking off each new season and airing on TV at the same time. Each series has episodes grouped into Autumn Term, Spring Term and Summer Term.
Waterloo Road was first aired in 2006 and has released a new season each school year. Each season features a whole new range of cast members as the pupils grow up and leave and new staff members take up new jobs. However, there are some long running characters among the staff, pupils grow up and sometimes ex students feature in story lines so there is a long running continuation to this series.
