W1A
W1A on BBC 1 is a new comedy show that takes up where BBC series 2012 left off and looks to be an equally popular satirical comedy. This time it’s the BBC organisation itself that comes under the spotlight giving us an insight into what we all suspect goes on with decision making at a high level.
After his success with running the 2012 London Olympics, Ian Fletcher, played by Hugh Bonneville, now has a new role as Head of Values for the BBC. His job seems vague and this time even Ian seems unclear about what he is actually supposed to be doing. To add to his problems a new member of staff turns out to be Siobhan Sharpe, (played by Jessica Hynes) PR guru and social media expert from the PR company Perfect Curve.
Within the London offices of the BBC, nobody seems to make any decisions without a focus group or meeting. There is any amount of responsibility shifting and nobody knows what they are doing. There are also apparently no private offices in the BBC a system known as hot desking, and Ian is often seen carrying his bike being unable to put it anywhere.
Expect plenty of confusion and cringe worthy moments as well as celebrities and BBC stalwarts playing themselves and the likes of Alan Yentob, Claire Balding, Carol Vorderman and Jenni Murray pop up in most episodes while David Tennant narrates.
W1A on BBC 1 is as good as 2012 and John Morton’s pace, writing and direction are completely up to par with his previous work. Which all add to the constantly absurd nature of this comedy.
