Unreported World
Unreported World
Unreported World on Channel 4 is a news programme that covers foreign affairs and reports stories that go largely unnoticed by the UK media. Compelling, disturbing and sometimes upsetting, the reporters delve into the facts that lie behind some of the foreign stories that usually get a paragraph in the press but otherwise remain completely unknown to the UK viewer. It does not usually make for comfortable viewing but can include some inspirational stories about real people trying to help others in often desperate circumstances.
Previous topics have included the conflict in the Congo and the plight of child soldiers and one man’s attempts to liberate them, a report on the film industry of Afghanistan “Lights Cameras Death Threats” and the story of Ukrainian teenagers living underground in a secret community in Kiev gathering warmth from hot water pipes.
Unreported World was first broadcast in 2000 and has run continuously on Channel 4 since it first began. Each episode is only 24 minutes but manages to pack a lot of information and understanding into the films and because they are short, these bite size pieces make for easier viewing than overlong documentaries.
