Triathlon
Triathlon
Triathlon must be one of the hardest endurance sports in the world. Athletes have to compete in three disciplines and Triathlon generally involves a combination of swimming, running and cycling. Three sports that require speed, strength and endurance.
Triathlon on Channel 4 covers Triathlon contests from around the world and brings these trials of endurance right into your living room.
Triathlon covers all types of endurance competition that can be described as triathlon or as providing a major part of this sport. For example, one programme featured the World Trail Running Championships held in North Wales. Trail running is a vital triathlon component and this world competition sees athlete run a gruelling 77 km run through the forest trails of the Conwy valley.
More usually, Triathlon covers the classic three discipline triathlon and has included the triathlon hosted in Abu Dhabi, the British Triathlon Super Series and the Rat Race Tour in Edinburgh, which sees 600 competitors cycle run and crawl through a maze of tunnels and face other demanding challenges along the way. The transition phase as the athletes get out of their swimming wetsuits and into their running gear is always worth a watch too!
Triathlon contestants may seem crazy to most people but no one can deny that these highly trained athletes are superfit. They must be! No sport is as hard and it is weirdly satisfying to relax on your sofa and watch as the athletes pound their way around the course.
