Total Wipeout
Total Wipeout
Total Wipeout is a game show that sees 20 contestants undertake challenges and a gruelling assault course with the aim of winning a £10.000 prize. The programme is presented by Richard Hammond and was first seen as prime time family viewing show on BBC. Although this is an adult game show, it has always been popular with a younger audience and is currently being repeated on CBBC. You can also catch up with total Wipeout via youriplayer.co.uk
Total Wipeout is a physically demanding game. The contestants must face a range of difficult challenges including high ledges, revolving red balls that attempt to knock them into water and more. One game is The Sweeper where contestants stand on podiums and have to jump over a swinging robotic arm that attempts to knock them off into water. As the game progresses, the arm gets faster until only one contestant remains standing. Each series sees new games and new obstacles and the final part of each show is the assault course that the contestants must complete in super fast time, avoiding the many obstacles in order to win.
Total Wipeout looks nightmarishly difficult but fun as well and presenter Richard Hammond provides a lively and entertaining commentary on proceedings. The show was first broadcast in January 2009 and has run for five series before finally finishing in 2012.
There has also been a special series of Winter Wipeout, which follows the same format, but with games reflecting winter sports. There have also been Celebrity versions of total Wipeout featuring slightly easier games and only 10 contestants in place of the usual 20.
