This Week
Catch up with all the goings on in Westminster with This Week a Topical political show broadcast by BBC One. You can also watch This Week via youriplayer.co.uk. This weekly show is hosted by political journalist Andrew Neil –who used to be the editor of the Sunday Times, offers an often-satirical view of current events and politics. The light hearted tone of the programme makes it less heavy weight and serious than many of the other political style commentary shows.
Andrew Neil is joined by ex conservative MP Michael Portillo as well as an MP or political figure with left leaning views. Labour MP Diane Abbot used to be a regular on the show and despite opposing political views, Portillo and Abbot were friends having attended school together and had a pleasing chemistry and light hearted banter that came across to the viewer.
This Week follows the same format each week and the show is in three parts. The first section sees a guest contributor presenting a short film giving his or her “Take of the week” on a particular issue or story in the news, coming into the studio to discuss it further. The second stage is a round up of the week’s events in politics and can be satirical and light hearted. The Spotlight is the third section of the show about a current cultural story in the news and usually featuring an added guest.
This Week is an entertaining and intelligent look at the week’s events and a great way of getting all the news in one easy to take delivery. The show has been broadcast on BBC One since 2003 and looks to continue way long into the future.
