The Voice UK
The Voice UK
The Voice UK is a talent show where unknown singers can compete in a chance to win a recording contract through the process of contest and elimination. This prime time BBC Saturday evening show has now moved to BBC Three so you can catch up with any episodes you may have missed. You can also watch The Voice UK via your iplayer.co.uk
The Voice UK is slightly different to the other talent shows. You will not see the hopeless cases and the insane aiming for their moment of glory. The singers are all of a high standard and audition in front of four judges Sir Tom Jones, Danny O'Donoghue – lead singer of the Scripts, will.i.am. and Jessie J. The unique part of the show is that the judges sit in swivel chairs so cannot see the performer and have to judge on vocal talent alone. If they like what they hear, they turn round and the singer joins their team. If more than one judge turns round, the singer can choose the coach that he or she feels will best bring out their talents.
Once the audition phase is over, the singers get to train and perform in compertion with each other as well as with their high profile judges. The final phase of the show sees live performance and a viewer’s vote that nominates the winner.
The Voice UK has had problems with audience viewing figures and the show’s format. Over the last two years – the programme first aired in 2012, the viewers vote has chosen the “wrong “winner and more talented singers have lost out to audience favourites. The live show that was supposed to travel the UK featuring notable season performers has been cancelled due to lack of interest and Jessie J pulled out of the series following the 2013 season.
