The Taste. Just when you were thinking there are not enough programmes on TV about food and eating, Channel 4 comes to the rescue with its brand new offering "The Taste"
This new series of hour-long programmes is a new cookery gameshow with a twist. The cook contestants must offer their best dishes for the judges Nigella Lawson, chef Ludo Lefebvre, and food maverick Anthony Bourdain, who all have to make a judgement call on the chefs’ total abilities by just one single spoonful to taste.c038tv
Each cook is both judged and mentored by the three judges. The contestants are encouraged and tutored and then have to take on the classic challenge and cook something delicious for judges to taste. The judges must base their decision on just one spoonful of the food and decide who is to go through the competition and who is to be eliminated.
The Taste on Channel 4 is a spin of from the popular American version and is a British remake of the talent show of the same name. The judges all have TV form and bring their own special personalities to the frame ,with sulky Gallic Chef Ludo, food writer Anthony Bourdain, a critic and chef who notoriously once used to send busboys out to pick up his heroin in his early 80s chef days, and the ever popular Nigella Lawson being seductive about a spoonful of food.
Obviously, nobody ever eats just one spoonful of food and then discards the rest, so this show really is in the game show talent category with no particular attention to cooking. However with these larger than life judges and food experts at the helm plus a supply of contestants, many with heart warming stories, you can be sure of personal triumphs and heartaches. That is until the winner of the Taste is finally and with much pausing for dramatic effect, eventually revealed.
