The Paul O'Grady Show
The Paul O'Grady Show on ITV is a comedy chat show presented by comedian Paul O'Grady. The programme is pure teatime TV and consists of a mixture of celebrity guests, comic stunts, musical performances, and occasionally viewer competitions.
The Paul O'Grady Show was originally devised by Granada Television and was broadcast on ITV from 2004–05 before moving to Channel 4 in 2006.
The show ended in 2009 when O'Grady announced a move back to ITV, hosting Paul O'Grady Live from 2010. However the show underperformed in the ratings and ended after two series in 2011
Three years later, the original teatime format is back on ITV, airing at its traditional time of weekdays at 5pm where it seems to have hit the right note with viewers.
Each episode follows O'Grady being introduced, walking to his desk with one of his pet dogs – he is a well known animal lover and is chatty in a way that most chat show hosts can only dream of.
His lighthearted gossipy style suits this format perfectly, but Paul is quick witted and often has interesting and outspoken things to say on topical and political subjects. He is quoted as saying “The working classes are suffering in this country. They're a joke in the media - they're portrayed in this country as chavs and rioters.”
Views like this come as welcome relief from the bias towards Oxbridge TV presenters who currently fill our screens.
