The Dumping Ground
The Dumping Ground
The Dumping Ground on CBBC is a continuation of the long running Tracey Beaker series set in a children’s home. The earlier series was first broadcast in 2002 and ran until 2010, and the Dumping Ground takes up the action where the previous series left off.
The Tracey Beaker series, including the Dumping Ground were based on a series of children’s novels written by Jacqueline Wilson, which deal with adult themes affecting children such as mental illness, family break up and foster care. Sometimes controversial for this use of adult themes in children’s fiction, Jacqueline Smith is one of the most widely read children’s authors and these TV adaptations of the books provide a hard-edged setting for children’s drama.
The Dumping Ground carries on the theme and story from the children’s home, Elmtree House and features a young cast of characters as the home’s residents as well as the staff, social workers and parents. Catch up with the latest episode of the Dumping Ground via youriplayer.co.uk
The Dumping ground – as the children call the home, is “a dumping ground for difficult kids” and the drama centres around many difficult issues such as addiction and family break up. Despite that, this drama series is fun, exciting, and very popular with older children and the young teen age group.
The Dumping Ground has a brand new cast of children but essentially the feel and format of the programme is the same as seen in the Tracey Beaker series. The drama is filmed using live actors but the action is moved along by the use of lively animations in a cartoon style. Three new characters Faith, Mo and Floss head up the new cast, although fans of Tracey Beaker will be pleased to see some familiar faces too.
The Dumping Ground first aired on CBBC in Spring 2013, with new series planned in the future.
