The Choir
The Choir on BBC Two is ideal family viewing and combines competition and creativity with the reality interest of seeing real people outside of their usual comfort zone.
The Choir (Sing While You Work) is the third series in which choirmaster, Gareth Malone creates choirs made up from ordinary people the workplace. The singers may have no general connection to music or any formal musical ability but Gareth turns them into full-blown choirs who then embark on a competition in order to find the best one.
This series has seen bankers, firemen, council workers, nurses, shop assistants and ferry crews all taking turns in using their enthusiasm, hard work and in some cases talent form into some great sounding choirs.
The show runs through Gareth’s sometimes nervous attempts to attract people who might like to sing, to then forming a group, making the group sing in front of people and then performing and competing in front of professional musicians and the other workplace teams.

This nature of competition gives The Choir on BBC Two show its pace but the need for the sporting element seems over done. Unlike sport, the winners in music are the ones who can impart the most to the overall sound. In sport, the emphasis is given to the player who scores or outperforms the others.
However, the unity the choir does create a very unified and team building experience for its performers. It is a shame that there has to be a competition because there really are no losers in this show. The results are often stupendous, moving and inspirational and everyone involved in this show can be proud of their own achievements.
