Pat and Cabbage on ITV is a sitcom that follows two independent 60 plus women, Pat and Cabbage, who are enjoying life free from the constraints of husbands or young children to look after. Embracing the idea of growing old disgracefully the pair find themselves in all sorts of situations that see their grown up children only shaking their heads in bemusement and the sitcom plays on the clash of generations.
In today’s world, it is quite often the older people who behave irresponsibly while the kids seek to conform and Pat and Cabbage have no intention of settling down and taking a back seat on life. Pat and Cabbage on ITV was first broadcast in 2013 and has run over 6 episodes.
Pat and Cabbage played by Barbara Flynn and Cheryl Lunghi respectively come with plenty of family and many of the plots have a family theme. Pat has two daughters, Helen married to a dreamer and with a three year old child and Nicola having an on off relationship with a PE teacher.
Cabbage’s grown up son the 40 year old Dylan still lives with his mum and is the subject of many of the jokes.
Pat and Cabbage is an entertaining sitcom that some women of a certain age may identify with. The message seems to be that when you finally get your independence, it does not matter how old you are, you can still enjoy it.
