Natural World on BBC Two is a multi award winning nature documentary series. It comprises of a series of documentary films with a nature theme on anything to do with wildlife and previous film topics have included everything from plankton to elephants. Natural World has a strong conservation message and the films are made by independent filmmakers across all corners of the world, working under the Natural World umbrella.
Many of the films take months to make as the subjects’ life cycles and migration patterns are followed and the show is particularly known for the high quality filming. It is broadcast in HD so this can be seen very clearly.
Sir David Attenborough narrates many of the films and has been quoted as saying that Natural World is the best natural history programme in the world and the one with the most distinguished record.
This flagship programme had its origins in the earlier series “The World About Us” commissioned by David Attenborough in 1967 and at the time the controller of BBC Two. The format of the show was for 50 minutes documentaries on a wide range of natural and geographic topics but in 1983, the programme was renamed at The Natural World and the focus switched to wildlife issues. The programme‘s title was further changed in 2003 when the “The” was dropped.
Since 1983, there have been 32 series of Natural World (and The Natural World) and much of the series is available to buy in CD format. You can also watch the latest episodes of Natural World via your iplayer.co.uk.
