Before you all dive into the fridge for your Sara Lee 5 meringue cake and settle down to watch, its worth remembering that this somewhat over exposed TV chef has a long and respected career in the food industry.
Many of you will know her from her role on the great British Bake off which established an almost fanatical following in 2010. However, Mary was already a well-known cookery writer and broadcaster who started her writing career in 1966 when she became cookery editor for Housewife Magazine. Since then she has presented and appeared as a guest in countless television series and has written more than 70 cookery books. In Mary Berry Cooks on BBC 1, she shows us how to produce family favourites from her own home kitchen.

Mary has the ability to explain her cooking simply which she herself describes as 'family cooking.' She shows you how to make popular family recipes that use less animal fats and how to incorporate more fresh ingredients into your menu that will be both tasty and healthy.
In June 2009, Mary was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Guild of Food Writers. She was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2012 Birthday Honours for services to culinary arts.
