I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here is a ITV game show now in its 10th season and sees twelve celebrities pit their wits against the elements and survive in the jungle camp over a period of weeks. It is always fun to watch people having a hard time and there are plenty of low moments and scary encounters happening to other people to enjoy! You cannot help feeling a bit sorry for the hapless celebrities as one by one the contestants are eliminated by viewer’s votes until there is a winner!
Comedy duo, Ant and Dec oversee proceedings and add to the general comedic effect and even after ten long years of this show, most people still cannot tell them apart.
Many of the so-called celebrities appear to enter the show in order to boost flagging popularity. The winner –gets a lot of media attention so there is a huge incentive for entering the show. For many celebrities it really is a desperate attempt to rebuild a career as well as the fees on offer from the show. It is an offer that many cannot afford to turn down!
Although, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! can be funny, this show has a dark side, which has offended some viewers. The contestants have to compete what are called Bush Tucker Trials in order to eat. One controversial trial saw a female contestant locked in a box and showered in cockroaches and spiders which led to a panic attack. Essentially all the challenges are along this type of unpleasant theme and the show has been criticised for wanton destruction of thousands of insects and small creatures called into provide the “creepy crawly “challenges. The RSPCA bought a charge against chef Gino D’Campo for killing a rat and cooking it over a fire in the 2013 series.
The show is presented from a permanent compound set up for the show located in Western Australia next to the rain forest and filmed 24/7 in a similar way to Big Brother. There has been criticsm over this too. Although the camp looks wild, it is very controlled and features a false lake as well as the lighting and sound recording equipment. Once the contestants are voted off the show they stay in a nearby luxury hotel.

Past I’m a Celebrity Winners have included Tony Blackburn – Phil Tufnell with Ex Sex Pistol Johnny Lydon famously walking out of the show. The 2012 saw MP Nadine Dorris enter the jungle, which caused controversy owning to her absence from the House of Commons.
