House of Fools
House of Fools
House of Fools on BBC 2 is a new comedy TV series that features the writers and comedians Bob Mortimer and Vic Reeves. The action takes place in Bob Mortimer's sitcom house which to his frustration is inhabited by uninvited people. Vic Reeves plays one of these people who live in the house. Bob also has his Norwegian son Erik who lives upstairs.
The show is largely set in one room, usually the sitting room with people coming in and out to canned laughter. The House of Fools is filled with TV sitcom characters like Vic’s friend Beef played by Matt Berry who loves to make love to the African Ladies and the next door neighbour and sex pest Julie played by Morgana Robinson.
Thrown in for good measure are musical interludes, puns, misunderstandings and slapstick. But that’s where the resemblance ends because it’s Vic and Bob’s surreal sense of humour that is the star of the show. With plenty of mad scenarios and bottom jokes the style is definitely more surreal than humorous and this is where Bob and Vic score so well with the originality of their writing. House of Fools is a sitcom about as much as Shooting Stars is a game show.
