Hidden Kingdoms
Hidden Kingdoms
Hidden Kingdoms on BBC1 is a wildlife documentary television series about how animals survive in the Urban Jungle! Forget seeing spectacular landscape and exotic locations because this series provides a remarkable view of the more ordinary world. It features smaller although not always cuter species of animals and the camera work is made from their perspective.
Steven Fry narrates Hidden Kingdoms giving you a good idea why the tiny animals are amazing by comparing their abilities to the larger and more powerful beasts of nature. The smaller animals often have greater stamina and speeds when compared to their larger cousins as well as their often impossible seeming abilities that seem to defy nature. r042tv
The idea behind the series is that too many nature programmes have been made featuring the big and powerful animals and have missed out the smaller more familiar and local wildlife you are more likely to actually see for yourself. Hidden Kingdoms explores this part of the animal kingdom that usually gets ignored. Watch Hidden Kingdoms via youriplayer.co.uk and find out what natural wonders may be living close to your home. Hidden Kingdoms on BBC 1 uses computer techniques mixed with live action to produce some stunning scenes.
BBC Nature has tried this mix before to many cries of humbug and fakery from the critics and only time will tell as to whether this series gets the same criticism. One such problem was highlighted when a director explained to a cameraman how an animal scampering through the desert should be shown like a car chase! Hidden Kingdom does follow this trend but who said that nature programmes should not be made exciting and entertaining!
Scenes vary from the chaos of a Rio street and a marmoset to an extraordinary tale of a rhinoceros beetle in Tokyo who has to find safety in this modern and unnatural landscape. We can only hold our breath !
