Helicopter Heroes follows the work of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance team as it rescues people from accidents of all types across the north of England. The air ambulance is used whenever a fast medical response is necessary and can include a range of accidents from climbing incidents, head injuries or motorway pile-ups and more.

Helicopter Heroes was first broadcast on the BBC back in 2007 when it was hosted by Richard Hammond of Top Gear. He had personal reasons for doing this because Yorkshire air ambulance saved his life following his near fatal car crash in 2006 while making Top Gear.
Helicopter Heroes quickly became surprisingly popular according to audience ratings and the show has been a permanent part of the BBC Two ever since and is now presented by Crime watch presenter Rav Fielding.

Helicopter Heroes have had some scoops. They were early on the scene following the Cumbrian shooting spree carried out by gunman Derrick Bird which left 12 people dead and their film footage is also used as a training aid after one of the helicopter team suffered a heart attack and was revived by first aid and a defibrillator.
There is nothing as strange or exciting as real life drama and Helicopter Heroes makes for often compelling viewing.
