We all dream of receiving the letter that tells us we have just inherited a vast property from an unknown deceased relative we have never heard of. Heir Hunters on BBC Two is an absorbing series that aims to track down missing heirs who are entitled to property from deceased people’s estates. Before these unclaimed riches can be claimed by the treasury.

Heir Hunters takes a look at the work of the probate researchers as they attempt to find missing heirs. Each year nearly half a million people die intestate or without making a will and in many cases  there will be long lost relations who are legally entitled to inherit. Each episode follows a team of investigators as they attempt to unravel a trail to the lost heir and alerts the public to the case as in Crimewatch.
There have been six series of BBC Two Heir Hunters since it first went on the air in 2007 and the programme has led to important information that has helped people claim an estate.

Heir hunters was originally a daytime TV programme but has been on prime time BBC one as well as occupying a BBC Two slot. It is a surprisingly popular programme and you never know, you may be the person that the heir hunters are searching for.
