Family Tree
Family Tree on BBC Two is a sitcom that follows lead character Tom played by Chris O Dowd as he attempts to trace his family tree after being left a mysterious box of items by his aunt. His trail takes him all over the UK and to the USA as he tracks down lost family members with often bizarre and funny results.
Tom is aided by his sister Bea played by ventriloquist Nina Conti, who suffers from a personality disorder that causes her to carry a toy monkey which speaks what’s on Bea’s mind at inopportune moments. . Bea and the monkey called Monk provide a lot of the best comic lines of the show with Tom’s dimwit best friend Pete played by Tom Bennett bringing unpredictable and immature behaviour to the quest.
Family Tree on BBC Two was made in combination with US TV company HBO and promised to be a cutting edge comedy along the lines of Ricky Gervaise’s Extras also a BBC /HBO collaboration.
In truth, the first season of Family Tree does not really live up to expectations but nevertheless is an enjoyable comedy that provides plenty of laughs and is worth watching. Catch up now with Family Tree via youriplayer.co.uk to see this major comedy production with a quirky and independent feel.
