Dallas
Dallas
Dallas is on TV again and this time it is on Channel 5. It is not a re run of the original show but a whole new series that includes many of the original cast – now very much in the elder roles, who are joined by a new generation of super rich schemers.
Dallas remains in the familiar Southfork setting and follows the fortunes and intrigues of the Ewing family – billionaire oil barons and cattle tycoons who are sworn enemies. . Fans of the original show will be relieved to know that the legacy of JR continues in this series. Sadly, Larry Hagman died before the completion of the second series so his death and funeral was written into the story. The original series of Dallas ran between 1981 and 1991 and was famous for ending on cliff-hanger episodes. The “who shot JR” question entered into popular culture and was even referenced in the House of Commons.
This new series of Dallas has a long way to go before it achieves the same status as the original show but has met with a favourable reception from critics and audiences. The series first aired in 2012 and has run to two seasons. Time will tell whether this sequel show continues the story set up in the original show.
