First broadcast in 1960, Coronation Street is the UK’s longest running soap opera.
It is aired on ITV1 which is the flagship channel of the ITV network and is one of the nation’s most popular soaps.

Coronation Street focuses on the lives of a mainly working class community who reside on a street of the same name, in the fictional town of Weatherfield, in Manchester, England. The local pub,  Rovers Return is one of the key focal points of the community.

The series relies heavily on a crop of characters who are a favourite with viewers and whose experiences form a key part of its plot, some of whom include:

Stella Price: The tough landlady of the Rovers Return. She came to Coronation Street with a dark secret and unbeknownst to her, someone close to her also has something to hide.

Devendra 'Dev' Alahan: Local businessman who is currently struggling with the grief of losing his partner and the mother of his children, in a fire after breaking up with her, following a stormy row.

Eileen Grimshaw: One of  Coronation Street’s most popular characters,  whose life revolves around her children, occasional clashes with  Gail Platt , her arch rival on the Street and more recently, her attempts to find happiness with Paul, a local fireman.

One of Britain’s most loved soaps, Coronation Street has won a number of awards over the years.  More recently, these have included: The Best Continuing Drama, British Academy Television Awards, 2012; and Most Popular Serial Drama and Outstanding Serial Drama Performance, National Television Awards, 2013.
The show also attracts approximately 9 million viewers per episode.
