Comedy Connections
Comedy Connections on BBC One is a documentary series that looks at the back story behind some of the UK’s most popular comedy TV shows. Although the topic is comedy so we get to see some great performances, it takes the form of a history lesson through a chronological order of comedy shows. This enables us to see the rise and fall of British TV comedy though viewing figures and the publics opinion at the time the shows were broadcast.
Comedy Connections also records the unusual links between the writers, film crews and actors to show us how spin offs and re writes have given these shows some of their near legendary appeal.
Interviews with casts and crews talking about their roles when making these shows can give rare insights to the sometimes unlikely connections. This also leads to some surprising revelations which bust open myths that over time have become truths as to how these shows were made.
Comedy Connections was originally produced by BBC Scotland that aired from 2003 to 2008 with the first two series being narrated by Julia Sawalha and the third series onwards by Doon Mackichan. The shows featured over the 46 episodes have included sitcoms, alternative comedies satires and mock documentaries.
In short Comedy Connections is about the birth, death, trivia and legacy of these shows and is a watchable 40 minutes that will appeal to comedy anoraks and ordinary people alike.
