Channel 4 Racing
Channel 4 Racing
Channel 4 Racing is one of British TV’s premier horse racing programmes and brings you the action of the racecourse along with informed opinion, tipsters and betting information. Channel 4 Racing covers some of the most best loved race meetings in Britain including Royal Ascot, Cheltenham week and the 1000 and 2000 guineas from Newmarket and looks set to increase its coverage. From 2013 onwards, Channel 4 Racing will also include the Derby and the Grand National.
Channel 4 Racing first started in 1984 and since then has grown in its importance. Although it first broadcast live racing from some of the smaller race meetings, these days it is considered the authority and many of the meetings previously broadcast on the other TV stations have moved over to Channel 4. The company signed a deal in 2013 giving them exclusive rights over many major race meetings, a position formerly held by the BBC.

Claire Balding is the major presenter and she is joined by a team of pundits and racing and betting professionals including co anchor Nick Luck – a racing journalist and ex national hunt jockey Mick Fitzgerald winner of the 1996 Grand National on Rough Quest ,
Channel 4 Racing is still remembered for colourful racing pundit John McCririck who passed on his racing wisdom accompanied by Tick Tack – the signs that bookies once used to pass on information about odds. John McCririck was axed from the show in 2012 in a controversial decision believed to be caused by his age but remains one of the most flamboyant and colourful characters associated with the show.
