Antiques Roadshow
Antiques Roadshow
Antiques Roadshow is a much loved antiques programme on BBC Two that sees a team of antique experts travelling round the UK looking at the members of the public’s treasured possessions, antique heirlooms and curios that they own, and giving valuations. Each episode of Antique Roadshow is filmed over a day or weekend in a different location and it is a major event. Sometimes thousands of people queue up for hours in the hope of finding out about their treasured possession.
One of the major appeals of Antiques Roadshow is when an antique is incredibly valuable. Because the show is created from these road show events, the experts never knows in advance exactly what will turn up and there have been some finds worth tens of thousands! The reaction of the owner on being told that a fairly ordinary thing may be worth a fortune “for insurance purposes only” can be priceless in itself. Some people almost go into shock!
There are many great reasons for enjoying Antiques Roadshow. You may own a similar object valued by the experts and so may be sitting on a fortune yourself. You can watch Antiques Roadshow via youriplayer.co.uk. and it can be mildly entertaining to fun to play along and guess your own valuations.
Antiques Roadshow is a long running institution and has been a permanent BBC fixture on Sunday evenings since 1979. Now broadcast on BBC Two and presented by Fiona Bruce since 2008, this show has made celebrities out of some of the antiques experts. Tim Wonnacott the decorative and fine arts expert is the host of BBC’s lunchtime show Bargain Hunt
